Starwhal: Demo Version
Description
The browser game Starwhal is a demo version of the commercial release Starwhal not available in full for the browser platform. It is the third browser version of the game, following the original Starwhal: Game Jam Version Global Game Jam version and then another prototype called Starwhal: Prototype Version. The gameplay is completely identical to the main commercial version. The basic premise is that up to four players locally each control a narwhal in an arena fighting with a tusk. Through short boosts the narwhals can move forward and they can also be steered left and right, but controls are quirky and ragdoll-like. The environment has a neon design with bright colours and it uses electronic eighties music. The narwhals are steered around and need to hit each other as jousts.
This version of the game offers one level of the single-player challenges in the game modes Obstacles and Targets, as well as two level variations of the Asteroid X environment for Classic mode in the Versus part of the game. In the Classic mode the last remaining player wins. Each narwhal starts with five lives and one is lost when the tusk pierces the narwhal's heart. The game slows down when a tusk is about to pierce a heart. It can also be played against AI opponents. All other game elements such as additional arenas, challenges, game mode and customization options are not available for the browser version and are only accessible in the commercial release (PC / PS3 / PS4).
