Swing Racers
Description
Swing Racers is a 3D racing game that makes a point of featuring its touch-screen-centric controls. The developer states that while a lot of games on the touch screen either present on-screen control sticks or take an element of control away (like acceleration), in Swing Racers the player must swing their car around just as if it was pulled by a rubber band in real life. The player essentially holds the screen constantly to stretch the rubber band — the further the player pulls, the faster the car goes but the harder it is to navigate the track.
The game also features various pickups that the player can use to dispatch their opponents — by burning them with a fireball, freezing and smashing them, electrocuting them or catching them in sticky trails. There are several unlockable vehicles to choose from and also several types of rubber band that, when combined with certain vehicles, offer different handling and speed characteristics. Vehicles can also be painted various colors.
The race tracks are set in various household environments — bedrooms, kitchen benches and dinner tables, pool tables and gardens. Visually, the environments have a realistic style while the vehicles and effects are a bit more cartoony. There are also bonus levels where the player must do things like achieve a certain amount of skidding, collecting stars or simply destroying as many opponents as possible. Another notable feature is the ability to race against the developer (shown as an additional "ghost" car on the track).
