Description

Chron X is a trading card game. While it is possible to play matches against the AI, the game is meant to played online against another player. The setting is a dark future (2097) in which the world is ruled by corporations. The player works for The Body, a mysterious organization, and tries to get an upper hand in the endless quest for survival against the opposition.

The matches have both an operational and a tactical aspect to it. The overall goal is to find the location of the opponent's headquarters and destroy it. The operational part of the game takes place on a world map (or, when playing a shorter match, a continent map) with a number of cities. In each turn, the player can found a base in one city which produces resources required for all actions like moving cards. When the players get in each others way, tactical combat starts. This means that when the match progresses, players have to manage the operational view as well as multiple battles during each turn. Of course the tactics depend on the available cards: the basic combat cards are assets which have ratings in different abilities like firepower or armor. Other card types are enhancements (improve the statistics of an asset), program cards (operational effects like preventing the movement of assets in and out of a city) and intervention cards (similar to programs, but more powerful)

As for the business model, Chron X is free-to-play and the player starts with a deck of 60 random cards. However, in order to get access to advanced game features like trading and tournaments, a registration fee is required. Also available for purchase are booster packs for additional cards as micro-transactions.
