The side quests are integrated into the main game, like in this case where we can travel to one via the world map.

This quest and battle map is unrelated to Takate. Most of my party sits there paralyzed.

No idea what he was doing in the middle of the swamp in a fantasy game (that always spells trouble), but it seems we must save him.
