Description official description

Zombusters is an isometric twin-stick shooter in which the player shoots zombie waves. After choosing one of four characters, which only vary in appearance, the player enters a one-screen map. Then a wave of zombies enters, the player kills them with one of the two equipped weapons (e.g. machine gun and flamethrower), the next wave comes, the player kills and so on until the next of overall ten maps loads. When the player gets touched by zombie, health goes down and if it reaches zero, the character loses one live. Killed zombies may drop ammo, weapons or health.

Multiplayer is only available on Xbox 360.

Circling shooter.

The Good
The isometric style choice and the zombies' animations.

The Bad
First of all, it gets dull real quickly. Circle, circle, circle. I've been running in loop for so long I felt like making spirographs. And it looks like a beta game that plays like a late stage alpha.

Turn down (or off) the music that feels like a high-school band advertising. In fact the whole game looks like a high school project. I'm not saying it's badly done, it just ain't fun. You got all the weapons at the start of level 2 and there are 4 types of enemies. For like 50 levels.

Bug report for those who bother reading this to find some kind of tips: if you press pause while there is an box of ammo on the ground, the box timer will keep running, meaning it will disappear in a few seconds. That's the real difficulty of the game: ammo management. You won't lose many lives until late stages as long as you circle around, but running out of ammo means you get to do everything by pistol. And even if you find a box you should keep it under your arms for later waves so you can clear out faster, so until then you are trapped for a long, long, pistol round. Also I've noticed that on some cases the +X number above when you retrieve some ammo doesn't always match the ammunition you receive. At level 4 it says +25 for shotgun but you get +100. Not sure if it's a bug or not as it doesn't always happen.

Running in circles while dodging and shooting is pretty much all that zombie games are, but here your real enemies aren't the zombies and the bosses, it's the environment. Dodging cars, lamp posts, benches and trash cans should be your priority after dealing with faster-than-yourself monsters. Oh, and even there you could make them bug. Also the absence of animation for the heroes makes them unlikable.

And lastly, what I can think of: the guns' sounds bug. If you change weapons too fast or if you click too quickly you can see the gun's muzzle flares but no sound and no damage are done. It ain't a big deal but it kinda ruins the little of what was left of my "all versus me" immersion.

The Bottom Line
I believe the game was designed to be played with a controller rather than a mouse as the shooting mark doesn't match the actual shot. It's also meant to be played with other players which I did not.

If you want to play something like that I'd recommend the much better Tequila Zombies, it ain't isometric but if you can get a working Flash version it might be funnier than this.

It's the first game of an indie team based in Barcelona so you can let it pass.
