ZP2KX: Zombies and Pterodactyls 20XX

ZP2KX: Zombies and Pterodactyls 20XX is the sequel to ZP2K9 (itself is an updated version of Zombies and Pterodactyls 2005). It is a multiplayer-focused shooter. The background scenario is that pterodactyls arrange deadly matches between humans and zombies.

The action is shown from the side and the maps are vertically structured. To accommodate for this, the characters are equipped with a jetpack for limited flying and can walk on walls as well as the ceiling. During the match, the players will find weapons on special spawn points and can loot crates which fall from the sky. There are multiple characters to choose from which level up during play. After level-ups they earn skills which can be appointed to the limited character slots. These are divided into three categories: offense (e.g. more damage for certain weapon types, more jetpack fuel or fast dodge), defense (e.g. increased defense, stealth or dropping a grenade after death) and modifier (e.g. faster running or draining the enemy's ammo with successful hits). The characters can also be modified in appearance.

Besides the standard deathmatch, team deathmatch, King of the Hill and Capture the Flag modes, there is also the special Zombie Hunt available. Here the level is dark and is only illuminated by the players' flashlights. All players fight against AI zombies and compete for the highest kill count, but if one is killed he/she becomes a zombie as well. All modes can also be played with activated modifiers like only spawning a certain weapon type, unlimited jet pack fuel or no crates.

Overall the game is humorous and features some non-standard weaponry like bullet-time grenades, a shrink ray or a machine guns which shoots kittens. While the focus of the game is on online multiplayer, everything can also be experienced alone with bots. Characters do earn experience points during offline play.
