Pre-Algebra World: Number Sense

Pre-Algebra World: Number Sense is an edutainment title intended to teach pre-algebra mathematics - a broad set of of mathematical techniques beyond basic arithmetic that are intended to prepare a student to learn elementary algebra. This program takes the form of several multimedia activities unified by the loose premise of exploring a planet. Each section of the game offers its user a chance to not only learn the theory behind a mathematical concept, but several chances to practice and drill on them in order to further increase their understanding. Throughout this process, they are guided by an abstract creature named Google, who can be called on to give hints and advice throughout the activities.

There are five major sections in Pre-Algebra World. The first teaches students how to deal with very large and small numbers through the use of place values, as well as showcasing various historic numeral systems. The second teaches them how to round numbers and estimate the results of an arithmetic calculation. A third part focuses on integer factorization and demonstrates various techniques for doing so. The fourth section introduces the concept of fractions, and it relies heavily on the concepts taught in the previous section. Finally, an "arcade" is included which contains various small activities that build off the knowledge students have learned in previous sections, with a focus on visual representations of these concepts.
