Ice Age: Adventures
Ice Age: Adventures is the follow-up to Ice Age: Village based on the Ice Age franchise of animated movies. It continues the builder/tycoon aspect with the expansion of a village, but now combines it with mini-games and exploration of different islands. Unlike the first game it now has voice-acting for the characters as well. The game starts with the popular Scrat scene where the squirrel tries to get an acorn out of the ice, but manages to break up the entire ice world. It is up to Sid, Manny, Diego and other animals to bring the herd back together as they have drifted apart on smaller ice islands.
The main village is the starting location and it gradually expands when more animals are brought back. Each animal generally provides a new type of building. Some of these produce currencies such as berries. Construction is done with shells as currency. Shells are used to build homes, buy decorations and upgrade buildings. New islands are discovered gradually by completing missions. To travel to an island berries are used as a currency. The journey to reach an island is an interactive game element steering a ship. Once on an island the character can be guided around freely to pick up items, clear obstacles (also using berries), open clams for treasures and rescue animals. Rescuing an animal is usually done by completing a mini-game such as a match-three game or a racing game where obstacles need to be dodged and items can be collected by swiping to move between lanes. There is also an auto-runner game where Scrat needs to outrun an animal chasing after him. Mini-games can be played multiple times to get more items using play tokens. These are dug up or can be earned through social interactions with friends. Rescuing elements can provide bonuses for the mini-games such as a berry magnet, a one-time shield, and the ability to destroy obstacles for a short time. Some islands are only available as temporary events.
Acorns are the premium currency earned in-game or purchased with real money as in-app purchases. They are used to skip waiting times for constructing and upgrading buildings, skipping the bridge requirements to expand the village or access a new area as hyraxes construct a bridge. Acorns also provide access to premium animals and buildings, and they are used to buy additional nursery slots for animals. To completely bring back an animal to the village multiple sets of a single animal usually need to be collected. Animals are grouped together based on species and completing a single animal set is often rewarded with shells.
