Description

Rayman Adventures is the third auto-run platformer for mobile devices in the series, following Rayman Jungle Run and Rayman Fiesta Run. Similar to those games it is not a classic autorunner game restricted to timing moves to progress. Instead it offers free exploration in multiple directions, also paths branching vertically, while maintaining constant movement as Rayman never stands still. There are two heroes to choose from: Rayman or his viking companion Barbara. Tapping is used to jump, swiping back changes the running direction, and swiping forwards activates an attack. The game builds on the concept of the previous titles, introducing additional freedom, and the visuals now approach those of the main games in the series such as Rayman Legends as it uses the UbiArt Framework like those games. Unlike the previous two games it is not a premium title, but free-to-play with in-app purchases.

The story revolves around recovering ancient eggs that have been stolen and are now scattered around the world. When an egg is found it can be opened to acquire creatures that help the characters during missions and help a tree grow, representing the progress through the game. For every new level based on height, additional creature families are unlocked. Platform elements involve defeating enemies by jumping on top of them, dodging obstacles, wall jumping to reach high areas, pulling levers, pushing objects, and diving down to break through surfaces. Along the way there are secrets to be discovered, Lums can be collected and Teensies need to be freed. The performance is rated at the end of a level and the largest rewards are only provided after clearing a level completely.

Each location is split up into multiple levels before an egg is reached. Generally there are three level types: exploration, combat and collection. A creature can be selected before starting a mission, providing assistance. A seeker for instance will reveal three secrets in the level, a protector acts as a shield and an inhaler draws in nearby lums automatically. Multiple creatures can be equipped per level and their abilities stack. Health generally only matters in combat levels where the character can be killed easily. One hit is deadly unless protectors are used.

In-app purchases are used to buy additional food to keep the creatures awake as they rest to regain strength. There is no overall energy/stamina system that prevents the player from playing with waiting times, but levels are easier when creatures can be used. Eggs need to be dragged into an incubator before they hatch and these optionally require gems as a currency to finish them quickly instead of waiting. A small amount of gems is earned in-game and more can be bought as in-app purchases or by completing achievements. Another currency called lucky tickets is rarer and is used to scratch tickets for a chance to win a prize or a rare creature egg. Tickets can be bought with gems as well. Next to the incubator there are several elixirs (golden egg, silver egg, speed time, new creature ...) that can transform eggs. The store includes several packs combining eggs and resources, costumes, tickets, elixirs and additional saving slots for the unlockable beatbox mode, similar to Rayman Legends: Beatbox. The game includes the Rayman channel, with pictures and videos made by the studio as well as the best fan-art created by the community.
