Poly Towns
Description
Poly Towns is a small town builder. It is played on a map that consists of nine zones and each zone consists of sixteen tiles. The game starts with a small zone in the middle and eventually the other eight become available after acquiring a town hall as the town expands. Gameplay is based on constructing buildings, gathering and managing resources, and keeping the villagers happy. The people live in houses and resources are gathered from farms, trees or mines. There is a job system where a house can be linked to a 'work' building to assign the people to it and then the distance between the two also plays a role. The other available buildings are a town hall, a church, a market and a park, each with different effects for the villagers.
The game has a day-and-night system and the game can be played at three different speeds with an option to pause as well. Every ten seconds the main statistics are updated: tax, building upkeep and food consumption. These have to be managed carefully to keep the villagers happy, represented through a percentage. Just like the game's simple mechanics, the HUD only shows the available cash and the three resources, the amount of villagers and their happiness. Buildings cannot be demolished, but can still be modified. They can be moved, rotated and eventually also be upgraded. That way, the town slowly grows and the buildings become more complex visually.
The game cannot be lost unless the villagers are at 0% happiness. Other negative values, for instance for resources or cash, can still be turned around. There are no sudden negative events or depleted resources, so when a good town has been built, it continues to thrive that way. Camera options allow for zoom and rotation.
