Ecstatica II

Moby ID: 811

After the daring rescue of the princess Ecstatica, our hero returns to the homeland only to find that his village has come under the influence of dark spirits. It seems that while the land's chief sorcerer was dabbling in black magic, a mis-cast spell shattered the holy seal that guards the secret of existence.

The pieces have been scattered throughout the land and must be rejoined before the forces of darkness create their own evil version of existence. Our hero must collect the pieces and reassemble the broken seal - all while fending off a host of demons who are keen to destroy him and anyone else who stands in their way!

PSYGNOSIS RELEASES ECSTATICA II, A PC ACTION-ADVENTURE GAME FEATURING UNIQUE ELLIPSOID TECHNOLOGY

FOSTER CITY, CA. – June 10, 1997 – Today Psygnosis announced the release of Ecstatica’ II, the action adventure heralded as one of the most unique games to grace the PC. Ecstatica II for DOS / Windows¼95 is now available at retail outlets nationwide for an approximate retail price of $54.95. The game is the sequel to developer Andrew Spencer’s macabre and ground breaking title, Ecstatica, released in 1995. The original title, infamous for its dark humor, striking look, and never-before seen "ellipsoid" characters, took revolutionary steps in new game technology and challenging gameplay. Ecstatica II has the same appeal yet expands both the plot and gaming environment.

"Ecstatica II is a signature title for Psygnosis," said Mark Beaumont, general manager and executive vice president of Psygnosis. "Psygnosis has always strived to bring to market games which combine breakthrough technology and rewarding gameplay. Ecstatica II does precisely that, offering our PC customers innovation, creative vision and action-packed entertainment. It unquestionably represents a cornerstone of our growing PC catalog."

The unique look and feel of Ecstatica II are driven by Andrew Spencer Studios’ revolutionary ellipsoid technology. While traditional 3D games are built from polygons, which create stiff and inflexible characters and objects, Andrew Spencer’s proprietary animation engine achieves an organic, fluid look, using rounded, naturalistic ellipsoids.

Ecstatica II takes these graphic techniques one step further, including more complex characters (up to twice as many ellipsoids per character as in the original game) and more detailed environments for players to explore. Ecstatica II is also designed with larger fighting arenas to give players more freedom of movement when it really matters – in the confrontations with the demons, gargoyles and other unwelcome inhabitants of the game.

Ecstatica II is an action-adventure, with the emphasis on action. The first game’s fighting techniques have been greatly enhanced – with roundhouse kicks, backwards rolls, evasive actions, combination moves and a much more detailed combat system. Players can capture an ever increasing arsenal of weapons and armor in addition to restorative and spell potions and other in-game items. In the original Ecstatica, the player arrived in a seemingly deserted, medieval village to do battle with the demonic manifestations of a young girl’s nightmare (not forgetting an infamously persistent werewolf). In Ecstatica II, our hero returns to his castle with his rescued damsel in distress, only to discover that it has been over-run by a horde of creepy enemies.

As the mystery unravels, players need to reassemble a sacred seal, the Elder Sign, and negotiate booby traps, all the while contending with an army of randomly regenerated monsters. This random factor keeps players guessing in a game where they never can tell what lurks around the next corner, although they seem to suspect it won’t be pleasant.

Psygnosis employs over 600 people with publishing and development offices in the US, UK and across Europe. Working worldwide with over 30 development teams and six internal development sites, the company is now the largest development house in Europe. Psygnosis is a subsidiary of Sony.
