Legal trouble

Originally, the game featured music by the composer Alex Mauer. In 2017, Mauer began filing DMCA claims against various games and game videos featuring Mauer's music, including YouTube videos of River City Ransom: Underground, claiming that they were in violation of copyright.

On July 13th, River City Ransom: Underground was removed from Steam due to a DMCA claim by Mauer. Mauer claimed that the game developers "never got my written permission to use my music in the game", an accusation which the developers have denied. On July 18th, Conatus Interactive announced that they were going to replace all music in the game to avoid future legal problems. The game returned to Steam on July 29th.
