3D Crazy Eights

Moby ID: 84769

Description

3D Crazy Eights is a multiplayer computer card game featuring interchangeable characters that can be played against computer opponents or online.

Unlike most other computer card games, this one uses a 3-D first-person environment as opposed to the plain top-down 2-D.

There is a tutorial feature for those who are learning how to play. There is also the option to connect to the GameSmith service for network play.

The player can set up the card game with different rules, levels of difficulty, characters, and backgrounds.

It's like you're playing Crazy Eights in real life with your friends!

The Good
3D Crazy Eights for the Macintosh recreates the experience of playing a card game with some old friends. Many customization options are well laid out, and you can play with animated and real life characters such as Jennifer, Kate, Myles, Horatio, Monty the Monkey, and others.

If you have a slower machine such as a Power Macintosh 7500/100 (the slowest I can test this on), you have the option to set the speed to fast so that the game will play at a near-consistent speed, but the card animations would play sluggish, so a G3 processor is recommended for optimum performance.

Compared to Hoyle, which had 2-D and top down styling, Freeverse did a good job at using a first-person and 3-D environment, which means you're actually playing a real card game as you did in real life. Don't forget the tutorials for beginners learning how to play!

The Bad
None so far!

The Bottom Line
3D Crazy Eights is fun for the entire family, but there is some slowdown problems on older 100 MHz PowerPC Macs (ca. 1995-1996). As I said before, I suggest getting a G3 or faster Mac for best performance.

I would definitely recommend this to anyone who likes to play Crazy Eights with a tutorial function, and will keep the kids and teens entertained when they are bored too!
