Description official descriptions
This game tells the story of Bjarni, a brave Viking whose adventures also involved the secret sun stones of America, together with his family, while he was but a mere lad. His dad, Leif Eriksson, is said to be the true discoverer of America - even before Christopher Columbus.
His last adventure had led him through Europe all the way to the Orient while he was solving the mystery around a strange vision he had. On his way, he met up with three other brave heroes out of different countries he visited throughout his adventures, and together, they were able to beat the terrible Midgard Snake and save the world from a terrible doom. As the four heroes were celebrating their victory, it soon became clear other dangers and adventures were waiting for them...

The possibility of slight role-playing makes this game more fun than expected.
Some stupid bugs in the AI makes it a bit tiresome to play.
The Bottom Line
Northland starts where Cultures 2 ended. You lead a tribe of Viking settlers in their quest for survival. You will meet several mediaeval cultures on your way to establishing a Viking nation; some are interested in trade while others are only interested in domination. The gameplay reminds me a bit of The Settlers, only in this game you will actually follow your families and individuals through their lives. Well, to a certain extent, anyway. There is no deep role-playing but it is fun nevertheless. I would recommend it to those who like playing The Settlers and city-building games all the while being interested in a bit of history.

Northland is the sequel of the highly successive "Cultures 2 - The Gates of Asgard" by Funatics. Erroneously, it was declared officially as "Cultures 3", but in fact it's based upon the Cultures 2 engine, with enhanced features, additional campagnes and a new story and missions. While not being a simple add-on, it's a completely new game on its own.
