Lost Pig

Moby ID: 98248

Description

Lost Pig is a text adventure game created for the 2007 IF Comp. The player takes control of Grunk, a none-too-bright orc looking for an escaped pig. After both Grunk and his quarry fall into an underground shrine, Grunk must catch the pig and get back to the outside world.

The game plays like a classic, if short adventure, with several puzzles to be solved and clues abounding. The game's unique characteristics include the narrator's (Grunk's) Hulk-like speaking style, as well as a NPC who can be asked about a huge variety of topics and who reacts to the player's activities in his presence.

The author
  • Grunk
The implementor
  • Admiral Jota
Sincerest thanks go to these, our beloved betatesters:
  • Emily Short (who was our most prolific tester and the first person ever to win the game)
  • Jacqueline A. Lott (whose early encouragement helped inspire Grunk to eventually finish telling his story)
  • Sam Kabo Ashwell (the only tester who managed to generate fully-fledged [** Programmer error **] errors. Multiple times)
  • Dan Shiovitz (who listened patiently to this implementor's endless griping about the limitations of the Z-Machine and Inform even before being officially asked to help out)
We would also like to offer our (almost as sincere) thanks to:
  • Graham A. Nelson (for Inform 6 [both its compiler and its various libraries including Menus.h])
  • Emily Short ([again] for her WaterElement.h extension)
  • L. Ross Raszewski (for his Hints.h and Utility.h extensions)
  • Stephen Granade (for providing the original inspiration that led to the first meeting between this game's author and its implementor and also for running the annual IF Competition)
  • The denizens of ifMUD for helping with questions on both coding and craft and for listening to this implementor's periodic griping and grumbling and various rambling.
  • And especially all of those who have read and appreciated Grunk's past work and who encouraged him to return some day. This game is dedicated to you.
