Anno 2205: Asteroid Miner
Description
Anno 2205: Asteroid Miner is a puzzle title and the companion game to Anno 2205. It is played on boards filled with minerals of different colours. The player has to create matches by locating and linking identical minerals, without swapping. By tapping and holding on the screen a chain can be created of three identical minerals or more, linked horizontally, vertically or diagonally. A straight line is not required as long as they are adjacent to each other. When a match is created the minerals disappear and the board is filled with new ones. Very large chains are rewarded with an additional score, shown through a percentage.
The game consist of different galaxies, unlocked gradually, with multiple asteroids for each one. Levels have different objectives. The most common ones require the player to mine (match) a set amount of specific minerals with a limited amount of moves available. Another type of objective requires the player to destroy an asteroid by draining a health bar through large chains. A typical element for the genre is rubble that fills up tiles and can only be removed by creating matches next to it. Some levels have permanent barriers that prevent free distribution of the minerals, making it harder to create matches. Later on more types of hazards are introduced, such as debris, toxic clouds, ice blocks and magma.
Five different types of drone are unlocked gradually, tied to a specific type of mineral. Drones appear on the game board once unlocked and they can be included in matches connecting it to at least two minerals of the corresponding mineral type. Drones usually deal extra damage and have various effects. In the workshop drones can be upgraded multiple times by spending resources, usually affecting resource damage and drone efficiency. Multiple drones can be included in a match and the orientation of the second one will be changed to match the first one. Drones are used to collect diamonds by creating combinations next to them. Some diamonds are also hidden in rubble. Later on three types of power drones can be accessed. They are powerful variations of the regular drones earned through a reward or through payment. They are then located in the top right corner of the screen and can be dragged on the board. These drones act as boosters and provide different effects. Buster removes all hazards in its influence area, Cross removes all resources and the top layer of obstacles on a horizontal and vertical line, and Rainbow changes the colour of all minerals in an area.
The game is free-to-play and uses a stamina/energy system that drains a meter for each new mission that is started. When no more energy is available, the player needs to buy a refill with diamonds or wait a while. Mission rewards are energy charges, the basic currency, resources and diamonds as a premium currency. Diamonds can be bought in packs as in-app purchases. Additional technology, such as improved mining efficiency or faster energy regeneration, is developed in the lab, a separate section of the workshop. Through the Logistic Center and by linking a Uplay account, players can transfer four types of resources earned in the game to the main Anno 2205 game: graphene, iridium, magnetite and petrochemicals.>
