Description

Colonial Conquest is a grand strategy game set during the late 1800's and early 1900's that puts you in charge of one of the six Imperialistic powers of the time (Great Britain, France, Germany, U.S., Russia and Japan). Using diplomacy, espionage, armies and fleets, these six countries vie for control of more than 120 minor countries and each other. Your goal in the game is to conquer as many minor nations as possible and set yourself up as the mightiest ruler on Earth. There are three scenarios, and up to six people can play each as a separate nation - or the computer can take charge of all the other nations.

Turn based strategy goodness

The Good
Great atmosphere, endless replayability, great single and multiplayer. Being in charge of one of the great empires of the 19th century and leading it to world conquest (or if you prefer something far less ambitious like who will reach certain score).

The Bad
It would be nice for the diplomacy part to be a bit better, but, it is what it is.

The Bottom Line
If you want to conquer the world, 19th century style, without too much realism, this is for you.

The Best 8-Bit Turn-Based Grand Strategy World Domination Game Ever!!

The Good
Simple Design Concept (play like "Risk" with the fog-of-war effect). Good abstraction of national force into continuous values of "army" and "navy" strength. You just love its simplicity. It begs for a remake into a PC game.

The Bad
User Interface: the one-button joystick control is very difficult and cumbersome for later phase of the game, when you need to move massive army. It should have the flexibility entering values with the keyboard. AI should be stronger, but it is still OK to have fun trying to beat it everytimes for personal record (thinking of it as racing for personal best time).

The Bottom Line
0-to-6 players can take the role(s) of six great powers at the turn of the 20th century for world domination. It is a brilliant design that stood the test of time. Still the best and easiest grand strategy game to get into. If you like, the game can play itself without human players, just modifies the initial conditions of the AI controlled players. It is almost like a war-simulation game.
