In summary then, Doom Troopers is a well above average side scrolling action game. It's gory, but not gratuitously so and although extremely hard in single-player mode, it offers a fast, frenzied, and entertaining two-player romp. If you see it lying in the second hand bins of your local games shop and the price isn't too high, then this game comes highly recommended.
SNESAll Game Guide (1995)
Doom Troopers is indeed harder and bloodier than Contra III: The Alien Wars, Contra Hard Corps and other games in the Contra series, but it's not as much fun or as finely programmed. For example, the characters are more unwieldy and harder to control, aiming the weapon(s) diagonally is more cumbersome, and the weapons are less varied and not as much fun to use. Also, there are too many blind spots you can jump into and get your character killed, making for a frustrating, unfair experience. Despite its bluster and its big guns approach, Doom Troopers comes up limp.

Carts like this will push 16-bit gaming into an early grave. Only the most loyal Chronicles fans will find fun here.
