aka: Fotbollsquiz!
Moby ID: 82008

Description

Terry Venables' GOAL! is a DVD football quiz for one or two people/teams, as the name implies this game is hosted by Terry Venables a former player, club manager and manager of the England team (1994-1996) and the Australian team (1997-1998).

There are six rounds in the quiz, all questions are multiple choice with four possible answers and, apart from round five, all correct answers are worth one point. The rounds are; - Round One "Player Power": In this round the team(s) are shown a picture or video of a footballer which they have to identify. The second and third questions are related to that footballer and are typically questions like; * 'From which club was he signed?', * 'What number did he wear?', * 'In the 2006 World Cup how many goals did he score?' and so-on.

  • Round Two "Golden Goals": Here each player in turn is shown a video and is asked two questions about players taking part. Typical questions are;

    • 'Who scored that goal?',
    • 'Who passed the ball to the scorer?',
    • 'Who was the goalkeeper?',
    • 'In this classic match what was the final score?'
  • Round Three "Make The Link": Here the team(s) are asked three football questions, the first is a random question but the second has some connection to the first and the third has some connection to the second. In the next two questions after identifying the footballer the player is shown a new picture before the question is asked. Some of the questions that could be faced are;

    • 'Name the 1st player's brother?',
    • 'In their managerial career when was the first time they qualified for a championship?'
  • Round Four "The Gaffer": Three questions in this round. In the first the team(s) have to identify a club manager. In the second question they have to pick two clubs he/she has managed from a list of four possible pairs. The final question is about an event in their career. Typically 'When did they first win the League Cup?', 'How many trophies did they win with one of their clubs?' etc

  • Round Five "Mind Games": Here the team(s) must identify one footballer from the four pictured based on the clue they are given. If they can do so they score three points however if they cannot name the player they can ask for a clue. There are two clues and each reduces the value of the answered question by one point. A typical first clue would be something like; 'He started his career at this club in 1999' or 'He made his international debut against this country in 2004'.
    Follow up clues could be 'He was signed by this club in 2006', or 'His transfer set a new record of £xxx.xxx.xxx'

  • Round Six "Extra Time": Each player is asked five random questions and has ten seconds to answer each. The questions are not related

At the end of round two and all rounds that follow it Terry shows the team(s) scores. When the whole game has been played Terry introduces a competition in which contestants text their answer for a chance to win a footballing prizes.
