Some computers ago, I had a hard drive that would stubbornly crap out in the event that it was allowed to spin down from inactivity, needing hundreds if not thousands of click-sproing shorting-out jump attempts before finding its groove again and going back into operation. Because I had to occasionally sleep, I could not manually give it the regular prompts it needed. I did find, however, that the crashing periods were suspended while PQ was in operation. Was its soothing monotony the antidote for my poisoned file system? Instead, every time the character's inventory fills up and he returns to town to sell his treasures, the game automatically saves... and the period between saves was shorter than that between inactive hard drive spin-downs. (That's my best hypothesis, at least.)
