World of Guns: Gun Disassembly

The Good
I downloaded this from STEAM because it was free and looked like something a bit different.

Little details appealed to me and showed the quality of the product, for example when field stripping the Webley MK VI the game used an old threepenny bit to undo the cylinder cam lever lock screw.

The graphics are clear and easy to follow. As parts are removed/assembled big green arrows appear to show what goes where and the product will not allow you to put a part in the wrong way up or in the wrong order.

I liked the multiple X-ray views, these either showed the whole gun in X-Ray mode or some parts as X-Ray and others as solid so that they could be seen working. All models can be rotated, fired, fired in slow motion, stripped completely or field stripped.

I was surprised to see that the range of Premium Downloads for the product included tanks, cars, and skeletons.

The STEAM free download is, in effect, a shareware version of the full product as it only has a limited number of weapons available. When I tried to access a different weapon it could be unlocked either by paying for Full Access at a cost of 29.99 GBP or by 60,000 experience points and one credit which I guess means that if you don't want the full product it's possible to get single weapons as downloadable content.

The Bad
This is good product and there's very little to find fault with. The background music may not to be to everyone's taste and I didn't see a way to disable it in-game. Not a problem really though as the sound can be controlled via the host machine.

Also the main menu screen looks a little odd, not in a bad way and if I owned and used the full product I expect I'd get used to it pretty quickly but first impressions were 'What do I do with this?'

The Bottom Line
A sort of 3D jigsaw for grown-ups. I thoroughly enjoyed what the weapons in the free product and learned something in the process.
