Biography edit · view history
Brent Smith is a game designer, programmer and producer. He was born in 1965, in Arizona. In 1988 Smith moved to Dallas after he had finished his bachelor’s degree in computer engineering at the University of Oklahoma. After his studies he worked for Texas Instruments, Ericsson, and then Southwestern Bell, during which time he completed a Masters degree in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Dallas. But, his real interest was to create games, and at the age of 26 he joined The Dark Half crew. He programmed and co-designed the game, from scratch, as he had no experience in programming and designing DOS games.
After the publication of Wayne’s World, Symtus next game, he left, and a couple of years later co-founded in 1996 Holy Mackerel! Media, located in Dallas, to work on Bruce Jenner’s World Class Decathlon, which was published in the same year by Interactive Magic. For the same company he produced Harpoon Classic ‘97 and Malkari (1999), for which he was credited for production, design and (lead) programming.
In the next years he worked on various titles that were published by Gathering of Developers (Tropico, 2001, Tropico: Paradise Island, 2002, and Railroad Tycoon 3, 2003). He most recent credits are for Shattered Union, released in 2005/6 by PopTop Software/2K Games. Brent Smith and his family are currently living in St Louis.
