Toby Normoyle's future was set in silicon with the advent of the Atari 2600. He loved the console so much he tried to change his name to "Atari" in elementary school and decided that he would become a programmer.
His computer access was limited until he reached high school and was finally able to take a computer science class. Showing natural aptitude he would often have the core of the program written by the time the instructor finished dictating the expected parameters, and the future looked solid...
However, the course work was depressingly boring in his college computer science classes, so Toby came up with an alternate plan to aim for a video game related job: He studied Japanese with the hope of going into localization. This choice took him to Japan for several years, but never got him the job he wanted.
So in 2004 he moved to the Seattle area and landed a contract testing job at Microsoft Games Studios with the help of some friends. He began testing on the core team for the Xbox version of Kameo: Elements of Power and then moved to Conker: Live & Reloaded when the former was delayed to become an Xbox 360 release.
Once his Microsoft contract ended Toby took a different sort of contract job at Zipper Interactive. He was still working in the test department, and gained full time employement after only three months. From there he went on to become a Designer and has never looked back.
