Biography edit · view history
At a young age Tyler West had a vivid imagination and a talent for illustration that was recognized by many who knew him. He developed his skills early on with support from his family; his mother introduced him to a very early version of Photoshop (which is the program that he still works in today) and his aunt bought him a Wacom tablet (which he claims was the size of a post-it note).
Beginning in high school Tyler started taking classes at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena and knew that he wanted to study there. He learned how to draw convincing designs from a three dimensional point of view and realized that in design, form should follow function. He began to appreciate that an attractive bump on the body of an airplane is not an aesthetic detail, but houses an important function. He went on to study Product Design with an emphasis in Entertainment and graduated from Art Center with a Bachelor of Science in December of 2004.
After Graduating, Tyler was hired as a concept designer at Electronic Arts near San Fransisco where he worked on The Godfather and Lord of the Rings. Two of his pieces from The Godfather were selected for the 2005 Into the Pixel Collection featured at the E3 Expo, where more than 60,000 attendees viewed his work. Tyler also served on the Art Direction Peer Panel for the Academy of Interactive Arts and Science's 2006 Interactive Achievement Awards, where he evaluated and selected the finalists. Tyler has since left Electronic Arts, Redwood City and is now working in Los Angeles.
