Gustav Mahler (7 July 1860 â 18 May 1911) was a Czech-born Jewish-Austrian composer of the late Romantic era. His best-known works are his symphonies, distinguished by their wide range of expression and gigantic scope. His work continues the symphonic tradition started by Beethoven, and is generally considered the apex of late Romanticism and the bridge to 20th century music.
