Bob Sellers started playing online games in 1991 with games on the GEnie service, specifically Kesmai's "Multiplayer Battletech" and AUSI's "Dragon's Gate."
After discovering a love for the text role playing game "Dragon's Gate", Bob learned how to program the "Pascal" language for DOS and wrote a front end program for the Dragon's Gate game. It worked, but was never widely used.
Mark Jacobs, head of AUSI, asked Bob to write a client program for a new project, "Castles II Online" which was already underway for the Mac, but Mark Jacobs wanted to release a Windows version as well. Bob went on the write the client and server for that product, which was released right after Bob officially started working for Mark in 1996.
At this point, Bob was using the "C/C++" language and could write clients using the Windows API and servers in "C/C++" under Linux. Bob's next game was "Starship Troopers: Battlespace" followed closely by "Silent Death Online", both overhead view first person shooters in space. Silent Death Online had the largest following, with people still clamoring for it's revival.
Shortly after that, Mythic Entertainment produced 2 text adventure games based on pre existing server engines, both of which featured clients written by Bob Sellers.
When Mythic produced "Dark Age of Camelot", Bob worked on the server side, creating the character database and it's backup system and the ingame quest system. Bob also worked with the international team, making a server that bridged billing with the foreign market.
