Overview edit · view history
Konami Computer Entertainment Japan (コナミコンピュータエンタテインメントジャパン, KCEJ) was established in April 1996 when the 5th development division of KCE Osaka was spun off. The company was merged with KCG Aoyama in 1998, and KCE Shinjuku in 1999, at which point it was divided into two distinct studios.
KCEJ West consisted of the original Osaka studio and the Aoyama studio, and was well known as Hideo Kojima's home and the creator of the Metal Gear Solid, Zone of the Enders, and Boktai series. The studio was also deeply involved in the beatmania and Guitar Freaks franchises.
KCEJ East consisted of the Shinjuku studio, and primarily worked on anime and manga license-based titles. They were best known for their work on the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise, but also created a handful of original titles such as 7 Blades, and Ephemeral Fantasia.
KCEJ as a whole was merged back into Konami Corporation on April 1, 2005, along with a number of other Konami subsidiaries. Kojima's Osaka studio was spun back off as Kojima Productions the following month.
