If you're looking for the best MOO clone out there - this is it...

The Good

  • Multiple paths to victory.
  • Ability to unlock different technology depending on your alignment: Good, Neutral or Evil.
  • Alignment is determined by random ethical decisions that occur through the game.
  • Alignment affects the look and feel of the game as you go along.
  • Ability to choose a political party that grants advantages and disadvantages.
  • Large online community involved in customising game (NB the game is quite easy to customise too).

  • The Bad

  • The in-game graphics are somewhat primitive.
  • As in MOO and Civ games, micromanagement becomes a nightmare later in the game.
  • Only the ability to play as Humans.
  • Sometimes it feels a bit *too* similar to MOO2.

  • The Bottom Line
If you like MOO2, don't look at MOO3 for a worthy sequel. Instead, seek out Galactic Civilizations. True, it may seem a bit dated compared to modern games out at the moment, but the gameplay is top notch and the game really immerses you, making you really feel like you're the President of Humanity. OK Graphics, good music and good gameplay with some novel approaches to tweaking the Space TBS genre. I give it 7/10.
