Description

Scooby-Doo Mystery is a point-and-click (or point-and-press button rather) adventure featuring two playable episodes of a typical scooby-doo cartoon.

Blake's Hotel - Daphne's Uncle Blake has invited the gang over to his hotel for a ski weekend. Upon reaching the hotel they learn that the ghost of the Ancient Chieftan is scaring all the customers away, as he isnt happy about a hotel being built on his burial grounds. Soon Uncle Blake is kidnapped, and its up to Scooby and Shaggy to find clues and hunt this ghost down.

Ha Ha Carnival - The gang arrives at an almost-deserted carvinal, looking for some fun. Soon enough Fred, Daphne and Velma get trapped in a pond when they go out in one of the rides. Not only that, someone has broken the rollercoaster tracks. Then an evil looking phantom clown has Scooby and Shaggy being chased all around the carnival. Another mystery for the pair to solve.

Both mysteries have Scooby and Shaggy on their own, collecting clues and putting them together. You control Shaggy mostly while Scooby just keeps him company. The game interface involves walking around and/or choosing actions from a menu and using them with objects. A password feature is provided so you can continue where you left off.

Too Short

The Good
Scooby-Doo Mystery is a fun, point n' click, graphic adventure game that does a good job of capturing the look and feel of the cartoon series. The LucasArts-inspired interface is easy to use, although it would have been nice to have been able to use a mouse.

The Bad
The puzzles in the game are, with few exceptions, too easy, and the game is too short because their are only two different mysteries to solve. On the flip side, the passwords, needed to save your progress, are too long. Most of these faults could have been fixed had Sunsoft tweaked the game a bit more before its release. Heck, had this game been made on a CD, instead of a video cartridge, it could have had several more mysteries to solve and more participation from the original cast.

The Bottom Line
A point n' click, graphic adventure game is the perfect format for the animated, Scooby-Doo gang. The graphics, music, sound effects and mysteries all show proper respect to the franchise. Adventure game veterans will be familiar with the game's interface, but will probably finish the game wanting more. Here's hoping that the Scooby Do gang find themselves on another, longer and more developed, graphic adventure game in the near future!
