Is it Monopoly? ... or is it SimCity?
The Good
I am a fan of both the SimCity series and the board game Monopoly and in my opinion this game is like a cross between the two.
The isometric view also provides a good detailed view for playing the game.
The Bad
As I mentioned earlier I see this game as being a cross between SimCity and Monopoly and I don't think it can quite decide what one it wants to be. I prefered playing the previously mentioned games by themselves: If I want to build I will play SimCity, if I want to manage money and plots of land I will play Monopoly.
Also, I don't know if I am the only one but I had terrible problems with the display. The screen would flicker a lot during the opening video and during the game. To correct this problem I had to use the lowest graphics setting which is a shame because my computer is more than capable of displaying the game in the highest graphics mode.
The Bottom Line
All in all a bit of a dud. I only played this game because it contains elements of two of my favourite games.

Trivia
Locations
As well as all the classic locations from the board game, Monopoly Tycoon has three dockland properties; Port Jefferson, Albany Dock, and Hempstead Harbor. Unlike the streets, which are located in Atlantic City, New Jersey, these are waterfront locations on the Long Island Sound in New York.
Misleading advertising
Although the front covers say "From the people who brought you RollerCoaster Tycoon", none of the core developers are shared between the two games. The blurb supposedly only refers to the common publisher at the time (Infogrames).
