Mr. Spiess was the international executive vice president (originally managing director) at Midway. He had been with the company since May 2005 and oversaw all of Midway's European operations. Prior to that he was senior vice president of European marketing at Atari, Inc. Before Atari, Mr. Spiess held senior management positions with Crave and Virgin Interactive.

On 20th August it was announced his company Spiess Media Holding had completed the buy-out of the European offices Midway Games SAS (France) and Midway Games Ltd. The main Midway company had run into trouble and filed for bankruptcy in February 2009. Since Spiess Media Holding had also acquired the Tradewest brand, the offices were renamed Tradewest Games SAS and Tradewest Games Ltd. respectively.
