This was a game that we would play on the Apple II in the computer lab in the early to mid-1980s. It was viewed top down and had very basic graphics. The cars appeared to be F1 racers. The sides of the road were composed of horizontal lines that streamed past in columns to suggest you were driving. Otherwise, you could only move your car from side to side. There were a few other cars on the road you could pass, as well as the rare narrow section or split lane to navigate. I believe you got points for distance covered. Contacting the side of the road or another car ended the game.
I would appreciate if someone could ID this as none of the racing/driving games in the database match it.

...but you had already looked?

Yes, I've already looked through all driving/racing games for the Apple II and 2gs. This game is much more primitive and simple-looking than any of those.

This was a standard period genre type, there are likely lots of them that were written in BASIC.

The game I remember was so simple that it may very well have been written in BASIC.
