Forums > MobyGames > Let's explore a new MobyGames slogan

For the past few years, MobyGames has used "The authoritative video game database" as the site's title. Previous to that it was "A game documentation and review project".
On Facebook, the description is: "The oldest, largest and most accurate video game database for games of every platform spanning from 1979 to 2014."
On Twitter, it's "The world's largest and most comprehensive gaming database."
Personally I think "The world's largest and most comprehensive gaming database" sounds the best from these and fits well. Although I think a number of sites make the same claim and who knows which one actually is?
Please reply here with your thoughts and ideas for what you think MobyGames' slogan / motto should be. A short, concise one sentence description of MobyGames.

I'm pretty sure "The world's largest and most comprehensive gaming database" was briefly used before the "authoritative" one, but was changed because the users disliked it.

I would go with a tag-lined title, so eventually:
MobyGames: The world's largest and most comprehensive gaming database - contains the greatest Motherfuckers of all...
or something more appetizing, especially for smokers (like me):
Come to where the ol' games live: come to MobyGames country.

And oldest. That one is of historical importance. Also, we're the only ones that can actually make those claims, so no problem either way. As long as authoritative is gone.
I'd go for oldest and most comprehensive (whatever that means) games database (since I don't think people search for "gaming database" compared to "games database"). But whatever works.

"A game documentation and review project" is best for me. It accurately describes what the site is about, without becoming boastful and debatable.
Or for an alternative, how about: "Basking in Indra's eccentricity since 2001"

It's subtle, dunno if that's a good thing for public relations hype though. Our overlords still have to keep that in mind to keep this boat afloat. As long as it isn't the equivalent of twerking, I suppose it's something we can all agree on or at the very least tolerate.
Personally, I prefer insane. Eccentric was already taken by my dad. :p

We mostly agree, but I think the new administration would like to see more of an emphasis on current games than historical ones 8)

History includes past present and future, so I don't think it clashed with either way of thinking. On the contrary, older games and current ones should have the same visibility. What I see now, is that the community still gives more attention to older platforms and PC games that to recent consoles (2000-now).
This problem also arises in genealogy, where the more recent families do not appear in genealogy databases, and current people might be harder to trace in the future because of that...

Darn you, chirinea. That's made my head go into overdrive.
- come for the games, stay for the tentacle porn
- MobyGames: nerds with data OCD
- MobyGames: where the forums never stay on topic for long
- MobyGames: claiming not to be a grue since 1999

Holy carp. Seven years ago.
We definitely should have all of those going on. The more mature or politically incorrect content should have a unique random quote section on top of the forums.
Mobygames: 33,000+ games, 100+ platforms, 80,000+ developers, 1 website coder.
Ah, memories.

I was going to make a joke slogan, but then I thought it needs to be lame, honestly. When I first started visiting MobyGames it always struck me why the name was so... off. It sounded like some guy's personal blog and not a... well, definite video game database.
This is my attempt to correct that. :P The slogan should clarify what the site is about when the title isn't totally clear.
