None of these additions changes the fact that Magical Quest is a short and relatively uninspired game. Once you learn some of the cheaper tricks in each level, you'll literally be able to breeze through the entire game in under an hour. It is fun to play while it lasts, though, and children especially will enjoy the ability to assume the role of Mickey Mouse and wear different outfits.

Though the game is short, a problem exacerbated by unlimited continues and a save feature, all of the levels are interesting, unlike many side-scrolling games that have you performing the same tasks over and over again. The graphics are bright and colorful, with large characters and comical enemies that aren't pushovers. Players have to be wary of bottomless drops, spikes, and other hazards while avoiding enemies that fly through the air, crawl along the ground, and repel attacks. Boss encounters are fun and memorable, with the ability to stun and grab their projectiles and toss them back for added damage. Magical Quest may be a short trip, but players will have fun throughout, which may very well be the most magical part of the game.

It's hard to believe it, but this game is Nintendo's first "average" Game Boy Advance title...normally games published as first-party titles get the royal gameplay treatment, but this one definitely isn't a glowing gem in the system's library. Even the connection to the GameCube isn't enough of a selling point. The quest is definitely tolerable and somewhat decent of a diversion, it's not going to give you even an entire day of enjoyment.

The GBA has had its fair share of clangers, and a large number of the almost-good. Disney's Magical Quest falls into the latter category, and it's a shame, because if started afresh, Capcom could have done something interesting with this. Sadly, it was a three or four-hour long adventure with little to add to the platform stable when it was a SNES title, and as a port it ranks amongst the mediocre and the unremarkable.
