Description
Jack and the Beanstalk is a graphical adventure game for young readers.
The player plays as Jack, and closely follows plot of the children's story Jack and the Beanstalk. The player starts by taking their cow to market for money to buy food, but ends up buying magical beans instead. These ultimately grow into a giant beanstalk, which Jack climbs to find a castle in the clouds inhabited by a giant. There, he must put the giant to sleep with a magic harp, and flee the castle with the giant's goose that lays golden eggs. Ultimately, Jack chops down the beanstalk with the giant in pursuit. It is possible to deviate from the original story, such as by selling the cow at market and giving the money to your mother or failing to chop down the beanstalk.
The player inputs commands from a list of 4 verbs and 4 nouns displayed on the bottom of the screen, using the left and right arrow keys. Not all options will produce useful results. Large full screen still graphics display game actions. Puzzle options will display, even if the player does not have the appropriate items, or if it is the wrong time to use them.
