Kaena
Description
Kaena is based on the French computer graphics movie Kaena: La Prophétie (Kaena: The Prophecy), that was released in Europe in 2003.
Kaena is a girl who lives on an alien planet called Astria. In the middle of the planet stands a giant tree called Axis, and its sap is vital to the planet's inhabitants. Lately, the sap has been rapidly running out for an unknown reason. Kaena sees a dream in which Axis is calling her for an important mission. The village people don't believe her, but Kaena firmly decides to venture inside of Axis and to find out what is going on. Another motive that drives Kaena is the disappearance of Essy, her best friend's nine-year old brother.
The game has plenty of combat with various alien monsters. You attack enemies in real time with your weapons, and can also perform stronger combos by pressing several buttons in a row. Once defeated, the enemies randomly drop little spheres of three different kinds. The first kind is used to upgrade Kaena's weapon and to make it more powerful, the second raises her berserk meter (when it is full, she can perform a particularly strong attack), the third heals her. The game has a static camera with pre-rendered backgrounds, and character-based controls (similar to those implemented in survival horror games).

Trivia
Development
Chris Delaporte is both the lead designer of Kaena and the director of the animated movie Kaena: The Prophecy which it is based on. The original concept of this movie started out as a video game project in 1995, while Delaporte was working at Amazing Studio with Éric Chahi. When the studio closed down, Delaporte turned his idea into a motion picture.
