ATCsimulator2

Moby ID: 14163

Description

ATCsimulator2, much like its predecessor, simulates the no-holds-barred world of air traffic control, with every realistic detail. The game pulls no punches—it gives you the painstaking difficulty and stress that real air traffic controllers face. Like the previous version, it features authentic TRACONs, speech recognition (which is improved), and authentic keyboard interfaces.

Some new features include the ability to use the new STARS (Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System) ATC system which is rapidly replacing the old ARTS system in airports today. There is also a career mode, in which you must maintain a work quality level in order to receive pay raises and avoid demotion or firing. In addition, there are several options to make the game easier for new players. An add-on to Microsoft Flight Simulator is also available so that you can act as air traffic controller for your friends playing Flight Simulator multiplayer.

Trivia

Release delay

On November 19, 2003, the developer of ATCsimulator line of products, Russell B. Davis, was almost killed in a motorcycle accident. Mr. Davis struck a truck that crossed into his lane of travel at 50 mph while riding his 1999 Honda Aero 1100. He was catapulted 75 feet down the roadway after impact and suffered 6 broken ribs, broken right foot, right collapsed lung and all 5 lumber vertebrae were fractured. The L2 lumbar vertebrae exploded. Mr. Davis spent 12 days in ICU and required spinal fusion surgery to repair his broken back. It is a miracle he was not paralyzed. The release of ATCsimulator2 was delayed until Feb. of 2004 due to this accident.
