EverQuest II (Pre-Order CD)

EverQuest II (Pre-Order CD) was released in 2004 in advance of the game. It does not contain the game, because that was yet to be released. It consists of the following promotional content:

• Disc 1:
  • System Scan: a check that the player's machine could run the game. This option attempts to open a web page which, in 2020, is no longer active.
  • Sample Music: three in-game tracks Queynos; Freeport and Black Burrow
  • The Official Trailer and "Making of" videos
  • Gameplay video: over eight minutes of video with a voiceover from Scott Hartsman
  • Lore: an account of a meeting of the gods which begins with Rallos Zek wanting the destruction of all mortals and which ends with a compromise he's not willing to accept.
  • Fan Club: links to relevant websites
  • Wallpapers: four wallpapers each in four sizes
  • Journeyman Boots: these boots can be used in-game for an extra burst of speed, they are included here as a bonus for pre-ordering the game. The instructions talk of a code in the game's manual but the instructions provided with this Starter Set are only a single sheet that contains no code. The code is actually on a sticker inside the keep case.
  • Character Creation: this is present on the Disc One's menu but only as a screen which says 'Load CD 2'

Disc 2: + This disc contains just the character creation software. Its installation takes a while and displays lots of concept artwork as it does its job. There are sixteen possible races though five are unavailable. The software allows the player to select a race, gender and alignment after which the fine details of the facial features etc can be chosen. Unlike some games there is no option to customise clothing though its colour can be changed.
