Aquaventura
Description
After a nuclear war, Earth's population is mostly wiped out. The survivors have built eight underwater colonies - that's all what's left from humanity. Unfortunately, the nuclear war was just the beginning. An alien race, the Spurcians, made advantage from this situation. They've conquered Earth and have taken those eight cities. Now the only survivors are inside the freight vessel Genesite, which is in orbit. On a last attempt to free the underwater colonies, the pilot Josh Aldrin (you) is sent back. Meanwhile, the Spurcians destroy the freight vessel, making you the last human on Earth. So, you are now on revenge...
Your job is now to fly with your craft above the water surface, destroying enemy alien crafts and energy generators. When you destroyed enough generators, the energy shield from the main pyramid fails, and you can attack the level guardian. Once he is destroyed, you can use the tunnel, which connects the underwater colonies, to get to the next one. You will play all eight colonies. While in the tunnel, you have the chance to collect power-ups to regenerate your ship's energy (health). Inside a level, you have to live with the energy you currently have. Oh, and by the way, you have, like in reality, only a single life.

Trivia
Demo version
This game had been under development for almost half a decade. Copies of a demo version of Aquaventura with the first two levels were available sometime in 1989. Though it had a lot of bugs, it featured the usual high quality graphics from Psygnosis with an animated end sequence as well as some music from David Whittaker. That version of Aquaventura was one of the first games to use the "vector ball" technique even before it was ever used in any kind of Amiga "scene" demo. Unfortunately the game released in 1992 looked (and sounded) completely different than the appealing demo version released years before...
The demo also had an unused drawn intro, that was later replaced by a rendered one. It can be watched here: http://amiga.lychesis.net/game/Aquaventura/Aquaventura_AltIntro.html
There is also an unused game-over animations and work-in-progress graphics http://amiga.lychesis.net/game/Aquaventura.html
