Hi ho! A voyage we will go!

The Good
Every level is presented differently. Sometimes it's a classic platformer, sometimes it's a multi-plane platformer and one level is a top down runner. There are a lot of opportunities to collect points to make your high score on the board. Let your inventory overfloweth over.

Enemies come in a large variety with their own attack patterns, whether it's human enemies or animals. So this Snow White does not get along with all animals like the Disney princess, the jealous queen takes that role instead, seeing as she asks them to harm Snow White. Some of the weirdest of enemies are the poison dripping lipstick and the dwarf in a train (I thought the dwarves were her friends).

The game's presentation is good enough, with storybook styled opening screens. The story is told in such a way that it almost seems like a parody of the original fairy tale. Music has jingly tunes, which fits the theme of a classic fairy tale rather nicely.

The Bad
While the graphics are tolerable, they aren't very presentable at best. They chose pretty weird designs for the characters on the title screen. Snow White looks like a vampire and the dwarves look like big nose gnomes. Graphics also suffer from lack of backgrounds to make the levels interesting. Enemy variety falls short through the overuse of bats and mice.

Difficulty in this game is not at a comfortable level, with enemies and their projectiles coming for you in several directions. Enemies can also go through walls, unlike yourself. That's one degree of unfairness. Sadly the slide ability does not grant you temporary invincibility and the jumping is rigid and awkward as Snow White jumps high, but not far enough. The rings you get to tackle enemies are rarer than Billy the Kid's pistol ammo, so you really need to ration your projectiles. Even worse, you can only have a maximum of twelve rings and collecting extra rings makes them wasted. At least you can squash worms and mice, Super Mario style. Just like the games that came before, the levels are divided into chunks, which really feels out of place.

In regards to marketing, the shareware version of the game only allows you to play the first episode, which is pretty limiting, considering that the previous titles Scubaman's Quest and Billy the Kid Returns! allowed you to play three episodes. This doesn't give you the opportunity to try enough of the game before you decide if you want to buy it or not.

The Bottom Line
Not what I would call the most child-friendly game given the tricky difficulty of the levels. There are much worse adaptations of the fairy tale, like Snow White in Happily Ever After and Snow White and the 7 Clever Boys, so this one isn't the unfairest of them all. It would be hilarious to see games like this centered on other fairy tales like Cinderella or Briar Rose.
