Burger Builder

Moby ID: 19499

Description

Burger Builder is an action platform game similar to BurgerTime. You control a chef, and your goal is to make burgers! The screen consists of various platforms which contain the ingredients you'll need: buns, burgers, and lettuce. When your chef walks over an ingredient, it will fall to the level below. When all the ingredients in a column fall to the bottom of the screen, you'll have a complete hamburger; complete all of the hamburgers on the screen, and you can move on to the next level. Unlike BurgerTime, the ingredients won't cascade downward; there needs to be an open space below for an ingredient to fall into so you'll have to work your way from the bottom of the screen upwards. Of course, there are enemies (in the forms of burgers, pickles, cheese, and mushrooms) that wander about to make your task more difficult! Each platform has an enemy which wanders back and forth; although they can be crushed by falling ingredients (for bonus points), they will appear again and be faster than before! Your only defense against the various opponents is to avoid them.

Near clone of BurgerTime

The Good
If the 4A didn't have an officially licensed version of BurgerTime, then Burger Builder would be a decent stand-in. However, the 4A DOES have the original, and it's a better implementation.

The Bad
Simplified gameplay mechanics makes building your burger more tedious than the original.

There is only one layout and the graphics are overly simple. All sprites are single color only.

Enemies can not use the ladders between levels, so there's less of an action/strategy component to the game.

You have no "weapon" like the pepper in BurgerTime. Your chef is completely unarmed and can only evade enemies.

The Bottom Line
This knockoff of BurgerTime is a lot less fun and a lot less attractive than the licensed version, although it's also easier and may be more suited towards the younger crowd.

You guide a chef across ingredients (buns, burger, lettuce) to add them to burgers being built at the bottom of the screen. The platform below the ingredient must be empty. Unlike in the original, where you can build from above, here you must build from the bottom up, and it's a lot more tedious.

You can "kill" an enemy by dropping ingredients on it from above. However, all this does is transform the enemy into a different type (hot dog to cheese to pickle to mushroom and then it repeats). It doesn't stun or remove the enemy from play at all.
