Heidi: The Game

Heidi and her grandfather spent winter in the village after the events of the 2005 movie Heidi. Now that it turned spring again, they've moved back up into the mountain pastures, where Heidi and her friend Peter are looking forward to a visit from Klara, who moved to a boarding school after having spent last summer with them. Until then, Heidi has many adventures to experience and some chores to do for her grandfather.

Heidi: The Game is a 3D, open-world action adventure game mainly aimed at young audiences. Players control Heidi through six distinct chapters, each of which containing several quests. These tasks have to be completed in a given order, and are limited to finding certain items and bringing them to the right place or person. The inventory screen always shows which items still have to be found, and the map indicates where they have to be taken.

There are some hostile creatures roaming the environment, called "Dangers of the Mountain", which can block Heidi's path and injure her. Instead of physically attacking them, Heidi can scare them off by yodeling at them. Other dangers include falling off cliffs, dangerous plants, or getting hit by falling rocks, which Heidi can avoid by stopping when the screen starts shaking. Health is measured in edelweiss flowers, which can be collected throughout the game world and from defeated enemies, as well as recovered after getting hurt. If Heidi loses all of her edelweiss, the entire chapter has to be restarted. In each chapter, Heidi also learns new skills such as balancing on cliffside ridges or calling her dog for help.

Each chapter also contains minigames, such as puzzles or mazes, at certain points in the story. These are played on a separate, two-dimensional screen and explained beforehand. There are 13 minigames in total, and they can be replayed separately from the main menu, even against other players to see who reaches the highest score. The main story chapters are also scored, depending on the points earned in their minigames, and the edelweiss Heidi has left at the end of the chapter. More points can be earned in higher difficulty levels, and there is a scoreboard.
