Great Invasions: The Darkages 350-1066 AD

Great Invasions is a real-time strategy game, taking place in Europe, back in the "dark ages". It makes you a leader of one of the European nations of the time. The game includes diplomatic, religious, military and administrative/economic aspects. Historical events (such as Attila's death) are pre-scripted to happen at specific dates.

There are 80 nations, and it's possible to control even 10 nations at a time. It is important due to the negligible longevity of most nations. In those medieval times, tribes and nations fell quickly, most of them without ever reaching any prosperity.

In the beginning, your nation is but a barbarian tribe bent only on conquest; but later, you have to settle down, and this is where the problems start - you need to manage your nation, support your armies... If you can survive long enough you can enter the imperial phase, but then it gets very hard to sustain the existence of the nation.

The religious aspect is important in the game, with 4 available religions, each of which can dispatch missionaries to convert populations and build temples, thus improving the nations's stability.
