Tales of Vesperia is succeeds at being an average JRPG and little else.

The Good
I liked the visual style. The cel-shaded graphics blend nicely with the backgrounds, giving it a nice anime look. The game is crazy-long (about 50 hours) and the price has gone down recently; you get a lot of content for your money. The combat system isn't turn-based and there are no random encounters.

The Bad
While the battle system is real-time, it still feels really clunky. If the combat was more fluid, the game would be ten times better. The story is a generic fantasy RPG plot. The characters are mostly ani9me stereotypes.

The Bottom Line
Tales of Vesperia is a long game. If you buy games based on playtime, then this is a must buy. Unfortunately, the story is a generic JRPG plot and the combat system is way too uneven for me to recommend this game.
