  • The town of Monroeville is based on a real Pennsylvania town by the same name used as the setting for George A. Romero's Dawn of the Dead, and was unveiled as part of the UK release of his Diary of the Dead.
  • Borehamwood was introduced as a promotional tie-in to Charlie Brooker's "Big Brother" derivative, the zombie/reality show Dead Set. New thematic elements tying it in to its inspiration include the presence of CCTV surveillance and the Big Brother mansion's presence on the map -- a location that figured into a contest to win a DVD set of the series by "making an entry" in the mansion's Diary Room, much as in the original TV series.
