I was truly surprised by the depth and level of fun that Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage provided me during my morning workouts. Although I love more complex, more mature games, sometimes it's nice to just turn off my mind a little bit and enjoy a bit of the dragon. Highly recommended—especially for families.

Taking more than 30 hours to complete, even if you just barrel through and never stop to really appreciate the game, Spyro is a wonderful adventure that never grows stale. All of the things that made the original game a hit have been retained and the simplicity that turned off so many older gamers has been flash-fried in a torrent of white-hot dragon's breath. Only those stodgy gamers that absolutely hate cute are going to dislike this one.

Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage! still plays strong today, despite being released two console generations ago. It’s simple and innocent fun that doesn’t take itself too seriously, but still provides hours of gameplay and fun. For me, fun is the most important thing in a game, the graphics can be dated, the music can be cheesy and the characters silly, but as long as it’s fun then it’s worth your time. Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage! fits this quite nicely, it’s a classic that you should definitely put aside some time to re-live, or discover if you’ve never played it.

This game may have my vote for platform game of the year. I really am impressed with the changes that were made from the original. The addition of the multiple objectives and mini-games will keep you playing for hours and hours. I was really surprised because I went in thinking that the game was just going to be more of the same and it really wasn't. I recommend this game to anyone who enjoys playing a solid action adventure game but I must warn you, it is addicting.

Spyro 2: Gateway to Glimmer är definitivt inget originellt spel.

Spyro is a fun game. It's huge and challenging and the gameplay is varied and creates enough incentive to move deeper into the game. It's still a little generic for me, as far as platfomers go. And it's a little on the younger side, even in terms of its general ease. As for the character himself, Spyro himself is just a little bland, and not the kind of mascot that I would ever fall in love with. He's kind of like a blend between a big puppy and a donkey, painted purple.

Spyro 2's addictive features show up early and keep on going right through to its excellent final boss level, creating a game that makes you actually want to acquire every single object and coin to see the alternate ending. That's rare to see, and something you really should attempt. While it won't absolutely blow you out of your socks like Super Mario 64 or Banjo-Kazooie did, it's the most charming platform game since Sony's infectious little surprise MediEvil.

Spyro 2 follows the original with smart, smooth graphics. The framerates are high, the pop-up is low, and the animations are entertaining. The levels themselves look terrific; kudos to developer Insomniac Games for building some very imaginative and immersive worlds.

With plenty more of the same in addition to more tasks and features, Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage! appears to keep the similar interface and game engine of Spyro the Dragon but introduces more robust options, interactivity, and even more cut scenes to keep gamers happy. Fans of the original will be excited while some of the casual action-adventure players will either be semi-bored or glad to experience Spyro at his best. Whatever the case, it's still an improved game overall that maintains a working formula rather than reinventing the series like Tomb Raider did with its treading sequels.

His sparky purpleness may not quite match up to legends like Mario or Sonic, but Spyro is one of the most loveable characters on the PlayStation. This might look like a game for younger players and it will certainly make an ideal Christmas present for the novice gamer - don't let the cuteness factor fool you though. Spyro 2 is platform gaming of the highest order.

Like the original, this Spyro is very easy to master, which creates an easy-to-control but appropriately challenging video game. The scenery makes for a visually stimulating game. This Spyro follows in the legacy of the original Spyro and brings home extremely fun, highly addictive, solid entertainment for gamers of all ages.

A sequel as a sequel should be! Improved in many ways.

The Good
I liked the free-roaming formula of part 1 and it remained intact in this sequel. The huge worlds have those same complex designs that trigger you to find a way to get to that very last platform to pick up that very last gem. This level formula that started with Super Mario 64 does a good job to on the playstation with Spyro 2.

Although the gameplay remained mostly intact, there's a lot of new things. Most of Spyro's old moves are back but also quite a few new ones where introduced here. These moves include such things as a ground pound and Spyro's good old fire breath. Another thing that has significantly improved is the story. There are much more characters involved now, and now and then there's a cut-scene showing what's happening. Spyro's homeworld is rainy so he wants to take a vacation to the dragon shores. So our purple hero and his trusted pal Sparx the dragonfly enter the portal. However, in the land of Avalar, a mole-like professor takes a Spyro over there and asks for his help to defeat the evil little dinosaur Ripto who's causing trouble. Besides these characters there's Elora the Faun and hunter the Cheetah who help you with the gameplay.

Ripto and his two Dinosaur servants Crusch and Gulp serve as bosses of the three worlds. That doesn't seem like much but each world has portals to lots of other levels. There are more that 30 worlds in all. In each homeworld or subworld there's a main quest, which is mostly very easy start-to-end-of-level gameplay, and some sidequests. These are presented to you by characters asking for help, some of which are very funny and original. Upon clearing one of these objects you'll receive an orb. As you collect more orbs, more portals will open up, leaving quite some replay if you want to collect all items even after you completed the main quest. Some sidequests are very easy but others are very challenging which makes this game fun for both younger and older players. They are also very original ranging from roller-coaster rides to shooting lizards, and are probably the best improvement in the entire game. If you've collected everything, you'll be able to go everywhere. This will take a while, I can assure you.

The graphics have improved too. The style remains the same but there's more detail in the textures making it a more atmospheric experience to play through the different worlds. It's easily one of the most beautiful platform games on the PSX. Finally, the sound is excellent. The music is once again composed by none other than the police drummer Stewart Copeland giving those same jazzy tunes that I liked a lot in part 1. Each character also has its own distinctive voice that fits with the character.

The Bad
The main quests of each level is usually a little bit too easy so you'll be more busy with the sidequests.

The Bottom Line
A brilliant platform game with great gameplay, great graphics, a good story and some of the most interesting levels in platform gaming history. They just shout to be explored thoroughly. This is the best Spyro there is. Though Spyro 3 had more to offer it was mostly the same as Spyro 2 making Spyro 2 the game that really improved the series. Buy this game and relive times when Spyro's game weren't such bad games as some of its recent sequels re considered to be. Brilliant game!

Second Game based on the Spyro The Dragon Series

The Good
First off, I like the second game but I still like the first game but let's get the first game out of the way and get to the second spyro game.

  1. The story is about Spyro trying to take a vacation in Dragon Shores but The Professor has got Spyro into Avalar, and Spyro notices Ripto and did not realize that Ripto hates dragons, NAAAA! So Spyro have to save Avalar and his friends to save the day.

  2. The gameplay and controls are so good that Spyro can move wherever he wants to. The graphics are kinda like the same from the first Spyro game but they're still good and I like them.

  3. My favorite part is always the speedways because Spyro can fly and if he goes into the water, you're crashed. The other part is that Spyro swim, climb, and head-bash. The music and sound have been awesome when I was a kid.

    The Bad
    1. I don't the crystal challenges from Hunter in Magma Cone because the 1st time I've tried it, the first part was pretty easy but when the second part comes in, I was angry at the second part because it's 15 points instead of 10 points. I just wanna say I HATE THIS PART!

  4. I really don't the Agent Zero challenge because if you go behind the tree, off Agent Zero goes and there's nothing you can do about it except you follow him once you got it, you've got the orb and time to finish Cloud Temples.

    The Bottom Line
This game is good and I highly recommend Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage, so if you want this game, please do so 'cause it's awesome and have fun.
