Invincible Island Remake
Description
Invincible Island Remake is a freeware adaptation of a text adventure released for the ZX Spectrum in 1983, submitted as an entry for the 2005 edition of the Retro Remakes competition. As the main theme that year was accessibility with one-switch games, the controls were changed from the original parser with text input through typing, to a series of interactive menus with a list of options that can be activated with one button. The spacebar has to be used to summon a menu listing all the possible actions in every scene, with the highlighted selection continuously moving down and up again, cycling every few seconds between all the available entries.
The plot remains the same, where the player assumes the role of a castaway stranded on the remote Xaro island, searching for the hidden treasure described on a letter by the archaeologist Dr. Chumley. The place is filled with dangerous characters and hazardous environments that must be avoided. The bottom of the screen displays any object that the main character is holding at the moment, with inventory items being selected from a list in the menu.
