Description official descriptions

Mystery of Mortlake Mansion is a mystery adventure game with a dark alchemical and magical atmosphere, most of which feature Victorian-style oil painted graphics. The player under the impression of mortal peril, arrives to Mortlake Mansion to discover the mystery behind the strange letter and its sender, signed only as R. The mansion is filled with eerie rooms where the player must find a way to enter them by solving various puzzles and riddles. As the story develops, the player will meet a talking raven, a restless spirit, and an mysterious dark magician. Each puzzle the player solves takes the player closer to solving the mystery of Mortlake Mansion and its relation to the player.

Puzzles

The game comes in two difficulty levels: normal and high difficulty (changeable any time via options). Depending on the challenge, the game offers different types of puzzle games or puzzle-solving activities involving finding and using items. For the most part, the player usually must complete puzzle games, which will reward either the player with an item or access to another room in the mansion. Additionally, the amulet when used will provide hints on finding the next clue or to help the player deal with puzzle games. A skip option is also available for some puzzle games if the player finds it to be to difficult, although this feature is not available for all puzzle games. The following are some puzzle games the player may come to expect in the game:

  1. Hidden Object Games

Certain areas may be inspected to reveal a hidden object game. In this mini game, several objects appear to be scattered and the player must find various items hidden in an oil-painting type graphical display. Objects that need to be found are displayed at the bottom of the screen (e.g. scissors). When all items are found, the player may be rewarded with an item or access to other areas in the mansion. Using the amulet here will show the player the location of a random hidden object. Randomly clicking on the display too many times will make the player dizzy and the player must wait a few seconds before the player may click on the display again.

  • Tile Matching Games

When the player finds the Book of Shadows and successfully gathers the necessary alchemical ingredients, a tile matching game will appear that the player must solve before being rewarded a key to further the plot. In this game's version of tile matching, the player must only match tiles in designated squares for the puzzle to be completed.
