Description official description

After Sir Daniel Fortesque vanquished the evil sorcerer Zarok in the year 1386, he was finally admitted into the Hall of Heroes, resting in peace. However, five hundred years later Dan unexpectedly awakens in a Victorian museum in Kensington. A ghost named Winston tells him that the sorcerer Lord Palethorn has found Zarok's spell book, reanimating the dead as a result. The pages of the book have been scattered all over London, and it is the task of the valiant knight and his new companions to prevent the mad lord from collecting them and conquering the city.

MediEvil II is an action game similar in concept and basic gameplay to its predecessor. The sequel is somewhat more linear than the first installment, having no world map and hence no possibility to choose the next level. As before, Dan relies on melee and ranged weapons to get rid of the enemies; however, the 19th century setting has replaced bows from the previous game with firearms such as pistols, shotguns, and portable gatling guns.

A new feature allows the player to equip two weapons on the protagonist and switch between them quickly during combat. Dan also gains the ability to split his own head off, sending it to explore areas he cannot access with his whole body. While in this mode, Dan can solve puzzles and find hidden treasures, but becomes more vulnerable to enemy attacks. The sequel also adds a rotatable camera during exploration.

An Above Average Game

The Good
The graphics are very good for the game, even though they could have been a bit better. The animation is done very well and is always smooth. There are fun scenes in the game like one where you must travel through Whitechapel after Jack the Ripper and one where you have to box.The story in the game has been improved over the first one. There's some scenes that actually are bit creepy.

The Bad
The game just seems like a rollercoaster ride. You're on a rail for the entire game and are told exactly what to do.Once in a while there's some innovation in the game, but it's mainly hack and slash.Although it's pretty challenge, this is a pretty short game that's over much too soon. You'll have no desire to play once finished.

The Bottom Line
It's basically just like every other 3D platformers except that this one has less inovation and more hack 'n slash. It has some fun moments but it's a short experience and you'll have no desire to play through the game again, unless you just want to play a scene or two.I'd suggest a rental for the game.

London might not be as atmospheric as Gallowmere...

The Good
This sequel has slight improvements over the original, namely the storyline, which is a little more fleshed out (although linear). It is not as good when it comes to its vocabulary, though - the previous one is glorious with its descriptions of the medieval world, though admittedly the second game is set in the Victorian era, despite the name.

The Bad
The humour, which is the original's forte, is minimal at best. Sure, the bad guy speaks in a calm British accent, which does confer situations some funniness (sacrificing intimidation instead, which surely any person desiring to take over the world should possess) - but, yet again, it wouldn't compare to the fact that Zarok, from the previous game, was perusing a book on how to look good for the over 400s. Not to mention he nearly turned himself into a chicken, whereas Palethorn is immediately able to summon a titanic demon even though he could barely find the book's pages.

The Hall of Heroes was also, in my opinion, a much better venue than the prof's lab in this game. The prof merely stated that he had constructed the weapons he'd give you, but in the Hall of Heroes they were forged on the battlefield, previously owned by centaurs and defence-obsessed Germans alike!

The Bottom Line
Ultimately, a good and challenging hack-and-slash nonetheless.
