Description

Lair of the Evildoer is a top-down shooter set in a closed environment that consists of 20 floors. The player has to descend and clear the floors off enemies to reach Dr. Odious who locked up the character in his lair. It is primarily an action game but also contains a number of RPG elements.

The character can be moved around and aim in any direction. Enemies can be destroyed using melee attacks or long-ranged weapons. Only two ranged weapons can be carried at any time. Guns need to be reloaded and have a limited amount of ammo. When a new weapon is discovered, the statistics can be compared to decide whether to swap or not. Ranged weapons are defined through damage, force, firing speed, damage per second, spread, clip size, ammo consumption and reload time.

By destroying opponents the character gains experience and can level up. Points can be assigned to dexterity (primary damage, sidearm damage, and accuracy), strength (melee damage and max ammo), vitality (max XP and regeneration rate), and defense (defense and mass). Enemies have health bars and often appear in large numbers. Pick-ups include weapons, ammo, and health. The levels are procedurally generated and that way they are different for each playthrough. The game contains 30 enemy types and 25 weapons with additional variations.
